Roca House

Roca is a house with soul and personality. The restaurant is located on the beautiful island of Ibiza, between the golf course and the Roca Llisa community. Roca House is not your typical bohemian-style venue but an eclectic mix of art, books, furniture, materials, and an atypical identity.

Roca House is a restaurant, pool, bakery and a shop. Many personalities have shaped Roca House, and that’s why this house has a soul. It has a beautiful story, to be honest—one we’d love to share with you.

The Canini effect
Our CEO, Bart Canini’s Creneau journey started on… Ibiza. It was there, on the beach, that he met former owner Will Erens. Will offered a young Canini a job at the HQ in Hasselt. With his hair gelled up and wearing swimming shorts, he said yes.

Bart loved Ibiza and visited the island many times. It had always been a dream of his to start a restaurant there. And what better company to work for to make that dream come true? When the time was right, he teamed up with his fellow Creneau partners—Werner Vanherle, Dirk van de Haar, and Bart Thoelen—to invest in a restaurant in Ibiza. After two years of location hunting, they found the perfect spot next to the golf course in Roca Llisa.

The Detailed Devil Haelterman
Serge is a true (Creneau) personality. When he started working on Roca House’s strategy, he had a clear vision of how the brand should look, feel, talk, and even smell. The icons of the Roca House logo became a sort of secret language. It took a certain type of person to understand this language, and that was exactly what we were aiming for.

But the icons weren’t the only way Roca House communicated with its audience. We created playing cards with quotes from literature, napkins with words that made you reflect on life and choices. The art and books at Roca House were carefully selected by Serge to spark conversations, make you wonder, love, or even cringe. If the devil is in the details, then maybe—just maybe—Serge is the devil in this case…

The Soulful Appendin
Senior designer Evita Appendin is another big personality who played a key role in creating Roca House. From the very start, she collaborated closely with local architect Maria Carreno to shape the foundational finishes of the space. Before Roca House was Roca House, it was… well, just a house. We had to rethink the layout—tearing down walls, building new ones, adding flooring, and more. Our goal? To make it feel like everything had always belonged, as if it had stood this way for years. That’s why we carefully selected materials that aligned with the architecture and its surroundings, adding texture, depth, and authenticity.Flagstones were chosen to ground the space in its Mediterranean setting, while the existing terracotta floors were restored, preserving their rich, sun-kissed character. We applied rough plaster to the walls, softly rounding the corners to create a natural, timeworn effect. Bamboo cladding was used to add warmth and an inviting atmosphere, while the fireplace was finished with hammered Ibiza stone—each detail reinforcing the feeling that Roca House had always been here.

But it wasn’t just about finishes—the same craftsmanship extended to the furniture. Bamboo wood was used throughout, with its distinctive layered structure intentionally exposed as a design detail. Every table was designed and crafted in our own atelier in Hasselt. For the cement-finished tables, we partnered with a local company, Piscinas de Cemento, which, coincidentally, also has a production facility in Belgium. Their unique finish—blended with small fragments of terracotta—was also applied to the outdoor bar, creating a cohesive design language throughout the space.

And then, there were the carefully curated pieces—the soul of the interior. Evita had so much fun curating old, new, and timeless finds. She selected so many beautiful pieces: Alibert mirrors, a vintage Moroccan rug, a pair of seventies lounge chairs, a 1960s coffee table with inlaid mosaic, and many, many more. It’s this mix of discoveries that makes Roca House feel nothing like a showroom but rather like a home—one that has been lived in, one with a soul and a story to tell.

The marketing synergy
"Ibiza is a feeling." With that idea in mind, our team and Belgian photographer Valerie Haesen went to Ibiza early March 2024—four months before opening. She captured the island’s essence through moody photography that set the tone.

This photography, combined with a viral reel featuring footage from local content creator Elevator Beat, ensured that Roca House became the talk of Ibiza before it even opened. All of this was curated by our in-house marketing team and our partner on the island. Ibiza is in awe of our communication—some say it’s the best on the island. And we don’t argue with that.

And judging by some of the reviews and personal messages we’ve received, we’re already making that happen. Owning and operating a restaurant in Ibiza comes with challenges, sure. But it also brings opportunities and room to grow.
